If the name Pineapple Mallow-ade confused and intrigued you, you are not alone. When I first came across this vintage recipe I had no idea what to make of it. A drink made with melted marshmallows… how does that even work? But work it does, and I must admit, it is surprisingly delicious. With bright pineapple juice and the unexpected creaminess of the melted mallows, it’s a drink that is bound to get attention. It’s easy to see why it was so popular back in the day!
The recipe was originally printed in the Better Homes & Gardens Barbeque Cookbook. I don’t have that one in my collection, but I found a photo of the recipe that I was able to work off of. With a few minor tweaks for today’s cooks, the recipe holds up surprisingly well in modern day. I had a few people tell me that the marshmallow foam reminded them of egg white on a cocktail!
The drink has just a hint of fizz from the ginger ale as well. Feel free to add more soda to suit your personal taste. Pour the mallow-ade over ice when serving so each cup is cool and refreshing without watering down the whole batch. And make sure to spoon some mallow foam on top because that just might be the best part! Give this fun retro recipe a try this holiday season and you just might have a new favorite.
