If you are anything like us, you have probably never considered your bowel movements to be a potential source of income. We understand where you are coming from, for sure.
However, we recently learned that we are flushing potential monies down the drain and now we want to learn more. Don’t worry, though. We are going to share the wealth with you.
Apparently, there is a biotechnology company and research facility that was paying good money for bowel movements. Yes, you read that right. The good folks at Seres Therapeutics want your stool donations and they are offering as much as $1,500 a month to get them. The payments are being offered as part of the GoodNature program.
The company’s aim happens to be very easy to understand, though. They are looking to study our stool samples so that they can see if healthy adults who are between the ages of 18 to 50 are in need of advanced therapies for C. difficile infections.
If the bacterium is not detected in time, we may end up struggling with various gastrointestinal issues. These problems could end up leading to diarrhea and colon inflammation. If it is not treated, the issue could even become fatal.
Chronic C. difficile infections are the cause of death for at least 30,000 Americans each year. Who knew that sitting down on the toilet could save someone’s life? There is certain criteria that must be met, so be sure to read on before proceeding. According to the website, you’ll have to be between the ages of 18 and 50, have regular bowel movements, and fall within the proper body mass index for your height.
In addition to these qualifications, you have to be a nonsmoker with no gastrointestinal disease, alcohol, or drug abuse in your past. You cannot be pregnant, you must be able to donate at least three to four times per week and live in close proximity to one of the organization’s donation centers. Those who reside in the Los Angeles, Phoenix or Boston metro areas are eligible.
If you believe that you qualify, you can fill out an online survey and if you are a good candidate, you will be contacted by the GoodNature program. Mail-in donations are not accepted and you are going to be summoned to the facility when it is time to produce. All in all, we can think of worse ways to squeeze out a few extra bucks!
