Being dumped on the road is an awful thing for a dog to go through, but for Maple, it turned out to be exactly what she needed to turn her life around.

The poor dog was likely living as a bait dog, and when she was no longer profitable, her owners dumped her on the freeway. It’s not something any pup should have to go through, but for the first time in her life, Maple was free.

It wasn’t long before the sweet pittie was picked up by Marley’s Mutts, a California-based dog rescue. Through Marley’s Mutts, Maple found a loving foster home with a woman named Randi where she could rest and begin the recovery from her traumatic life.

Randi worked with Maple until she was ready to find a forever home. As soon as she was listed for adoption, a woman named Justine DeLacy saw Maple and knew she had to meet her.

Justine shared in an interview with GeoBeats Animals that she was mourning the loss of her last pit bull, but when she saw Maple, she realized she was ready to bring another dog into her life. Justine drove over 8 hours to meet Maple, the moment she did, she fell in love.

Maple was still recovering from her former life and only weighed 35 pounds when she went home with Justine. In her new home, though, Maple began to thrive. She slowly put on weight and now she sits at a “solid” 60 pounds!

Speaking with GeoBeats Animals, Justine described Maple as “the sweetest, most gentle being ever.”

Now that she’s put on some weight and is comfortable with her new owner and dog brother, Brody, the three of them go on loads of adventures together! One of Maple’s favorite things to do is go hiking in the wilderness. Because they hike to remote areas, Maple can go off-leash and run through the forest and trails.

When they’re home, she loves to cuddle, play fetch, and do typical dog things too. She’s really living her best life!
