Avocados are one of those treats that we love in so many different ways. Not only do we appreciate putting guacamole on our burrito, but we might also start our day off with some avocado toast.
It’s just one of those items that are beloved and fits into almost any meal. That doesn’t mean, however, that avocados are not without their problems.
If you have tried to keep avocados fresh at home, you realize that there is a very short window of opportunity for using them. Miss it by a day and you will be dealing with a rotten avocado.
If you understand this frustration, there is good news on the horizon. A chef has figured out a way to keep avocados fresh much longer and they have shared it with the world on TikTok.
Even though the video is in Spanish, you can follow along as he demonstrates how to keep avocados fresh step-by-step. The method involves cutting the avocado in half, putting it flesh side down in the water, and storing the bowl in the fridge.
If you store it submerged in water in an airtight container, an avocado will reportedly last for two days without losing its color in the refrigerator.
He also showed another way of storing avocados by covering the flesh side of the cut avocado with a wet paper towel. This also worked, but it didn’t seem to work quite as well as submerging the avocado in water.
