Gooey Butter Spice Cake

Gooey. Butter. Spice. Cake. There’s nothing about that name I don’t love. What’s even better, is that this dessert starts with a box cake mix! That’s right, nothing too fancy here, but the result is unlike anything you’ve ever made from a box before. The base of this cake consists of cake mix, butter, and an egg. While delicious, it’s not the star of the show.

The real kicker is the gooey, sweet, buttery topping. With cream cheese, vanilla extract, eggs, spices, and even more butter, this is one cake you won’t want to pass up. Check out the video below to see how all the flavors of fall come together for one sweet, over-the-top dessert!

Gooey Butter Spice Cake

To get started on this delightful fall treat, preheat the oven to 350F. Then, spray a 9×13″ baking pan with non-stick cooking spray and set it aside for later use. In a large bowl, mix together cake mix, one egg, and one stick of melted butter. Press the cake mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish and slightly up the sides of the dish. Set aside.

In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Then add remaining eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and remaining melted stick of butter. Beat until smooth. Stir in the powdered sugar and continue to mix until incorporated. Spread the creamy mixture on top of the cake mix in the baking dish.

Gooey Butter Spice Cake

All that’s left is to bake the cake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until center is set but still gooey. Remove from oven and let cool for about an hour before sprinkling a bit more powdered sugar on top. You can also top with additional cinnamon and/or nutmeg for an extra kick of spice.

If you’re in the mood for a deliciously rich and creamy dessert with all the flavors of autumn, this is the recipe for you! Go ahead and get the full ingredient list and step-by-step instructions below. Don’t say I didn’t warn you though… this stuff is dangerously addictive!
