I grew up in Anaheim, California, meaning that Disneyland was right in my backyard – literally. I was just down the street from it. I could see the fireworks from the firework show every single night as if I were right there in the park itself.
Needless to say, they were pretty loud, and over the years that led to many an anecdote from unsuspecting houseguests who stayed past 8 pm. Given that I lived so close, I rarely went to the theme parks at all. However, every time that I did go to the happiest place on Earth, I never wanted to leave. Like many kids, when it was nearing time to go home, my first thought was usually “why can’t I live here?”
If you’re a Disney enthusiast who often feels like your trips to Disneyland or Walt Disney World are never enough, then you might be excited to learn that there is an upcoming way to live the Disney experience full time.
According to a report from Deadline, Disney has plans to develop a series of residential communities that are a mix of a traditional housing development coupled with the creative concepts that Disney’s Imagineers are famous for. The entire concept has been called Storyliving by Disney.
The first of its residential locations is called Cotino, which will be built in Rancho Mirage, California. The housing development will have 1900 units, all ranging from estates to single-family homes to condos.
At the center of the community is the “oasis,” which will serve as a gathering point for many different Disney-themed events and programs all year long. There will also be a beachfront park offering a variety of water activities. And there will also be a communal business district that will have cast members trained to provide Disney levels of customer service.
Disney might be promoting the properties and lending their name and creative vision to the project, but they won’t be the actual developers – or even owners – of the properties. No completion date has been shared, but we’re hoping there will be more information regarding the project once ground on Cotino gets broken.
