Who doesn’t love chili cheese dogs? I’m sure there are some people out there, but it can’t be a lot. I mean what’s not to like? A meaty, savory hot dog made even more meaty with robust and zesty chili and topped with plenty of ooey-gooey cheese. Oh, and of course it’s all wrapped in a nice comforting bun… but here I can do you one better. Instead of a bun, we’ve got fluffy, buttery crescent rolls. So still a chili dog, but maybe even more comforting, and it’s all baked together in one bubbly dish.
For the main part of this dish, you only need four things: hot dogs, chili, crescent rolls, and some cheddar cheese.
It’s easy: you unroll the crescent dough, place a little cheddar cheese on it along with a hot dog and roll it right up.
You give those a head start in the oven to start to bake and then you spread two cans of chili in the bottom of a baking dish. Could you use homemade chili? Of course you could, but this quick bake is all about simplicity.
You top the chili with the par-baked hot dogs and give it just ten more minutes in the oven. The final flourish is brushing with some melted butter mixed with a little parsley and garlic salt… It’s not totally necessary but it sure is a nice finishing flourish!
