When the weather starts to turn cooler outside, some people call it autumn and other people call it fall. There is an increasing number of people, however, who are referring to it as pumpkin spice season. After all, the shelves are lined with pumpkin spice flavored everything, and people love it.

Then again, there are some people who don’t seem as obsessed over pumpkin spice and perhaps they wonder why people tend to go crazy when the flavor hits the shelves.

Here are some of the reasons why it is so popular:

1. Autumn is here – Humans love routine but they also welcome change when it is to their benefit. Four times a year, the seasons change and we enter into a new, short era. Pumpkin spice signals the change of season to autumn, which is a favorite for many people.

2. Nostalgia abounds – The pumpkin spice scent and flavor tend to bring back memories of things that we care about. It could be a road trip to see our grandparents over the holidays or perhaps just baking a pie with our mother.

3. Short-lived season – If you are a big fan of pumpkin spice, you already realize that the season doesn’t stick around very long. We tend to dig in and enjoy it as much as we can and then we have to wait an entire year for it to come around again.

4. Comforting, warm spices – If you have ever eaten a pumpkin without any seasoning, you realize it doesn’t have much of a flavor. Pumpkin spice is not about the pumpkin, it’s about the spice. There is something about the blend of spices that would be found in a pumpkin pie along with some sugar that really brings out the delicious flavors we love so much.

Now you know why we tend to obsess over pumpkin spice. Regardless of why we love it, it’s something we enjoy every opportunity we get.
