Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

Christmas Day is usually the last day where we want to be running around, but sometimes things come up and you simply cannot help it. Because of this, it’s a good idea to contact stores ahead of time to know which will actually be open on Christmas. Fortunately for you, we have already done some of the legwork.

We highly suggest taking a moment to make the call yourself before proceeding, though. Locations are often able to make their own decisions based on what the weather conditions are that day and the expected number of customers. Our guide can get you started, but we urge you to take the time to learn more on your own for your specific locations to save you from a meaningless drive on the big day.

If you are in need of a pharmacy, you can check CVS, Duane Reade, Walgreens and Rite Aid. All of these locations are planning on staying open on Christmas Day. However, if these stores are located inside of another department store, you will want to make sure that you are calling ahead of time. They may be closed if the larger store is also shutting their doors for the day.

Many convenience stores should also be open, such as 7-Eleven, Circle K, Speedway, Casey’s, Cumberland Farms, Sheetz, Wawa, and QuickCheck. Most of these stores pride themselves on remaining open all year round. If there are other convenience store chains in your area, give them a call ahead of time to make sure that they are actually going to be open.

Grocery stores can be a bit dicier, so take the time to stock up ahead of time. Giant, Safeway, and Alberson’s are all going to have some locations open, and if you do not live in an area where one of these stores is located, you will have to do some research.

Starbucks and Family Dollar are also remaining open, but again, check with your local locations to confirm that.

If you have any questions about specific hours of operation, pick up the phone and find out more. Don’t make the mistake of assuming. Christmas is a day to spend indoors with loved ones but if you need any additional items, hopefully this list helps you narrow down your options.

Happy holidays!
