New Year’s is a celebration around the world and it is one that travels across the world like a wave. In one country after another, people are saying goodbye to the old year and hoping for the best in the new year.

This is especially true after the year that we’ve had in 2021. Admittedly, 2020 had its rough spots but we are still looking forward to turning the page and saying hello to 2022 and all of the positive possibilities it holds.

Interestingly, people around the world will be celebrating the arrival of January 1 at different times. As a result, there is going to be a country or group of countries that say goodbye to 2021 first and those who will be saying hello to 2022 last.

NDTV reports that in Oceana, the easternmost islands will welcome the new year at midnight before the rest of the world.

It will happen when the people in Tonga, Samoa, and Kiribati celebrate as the calendars are turned to January 1, 2022. The wave will continue across the world, next reaching New Zealand, South Korea, and Australia.

It is going to take more than an entire day for the new year to hit the other side of the time zone map. It happens at 6:00 AM Eastern Standard Time on January 1, 25 hours after the original celebrations were held in Samoa.
