Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

David Moomaw spent his working life as a toy engineer. He retired from Fisher-Price a few years back and has since been enjoying life. Of course, you can take the man out of toy engineering but you can’t take toy engineering out of the man. Moomaw’s still crafting some amazing creations. Just wait until you see what he has cooked up for this year’s Halloween!

He created a massive spider – and it crawls! As you may have expected, it took him quite some time to finish the spider. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, he decided that he wanted to do something more unorthodox than usual for this year’s Halloween festivities, so he got to work in May. After all, this project was not just any weekend task.

All your spider answers here: 1) It's THAT big. 2) It doesn't go that fast (takes about 30 seconds to float down).3) It's located on Oakwood between Grove and Walnut!

The giant spider that he decided on has been a huge hit. Those who reside in the East Aurora, New York area are being treated to quite the show. The spider is inflatable, rests on top of a giant crane, and answers to Scarantula. The spider’s web glows during the nighttime. In addition to the giant spider, there are additional smaller spiders hanging out in the mix.

This display will be running from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. through Halloween night. Please share and let people know they are welcome to come.

A crane is used to make the giant spider appear to crawl, which is every bit as spooky as it sounds. Can you believe that this man sewed and painted the spider together on his own? We are so fortunate that he is willing to share the finer points of his process in such fascinating detail.

“With so much going on this year, I thought Halloween wasn’t going to be the same and I felt if there was ever a time that we needed something other to look at it was now,” Moomaw says in an interview with ABC13.

Thanks to forward-thinkers like him, we have never had so many awesome Halloween decorations to look at. People really went all out this year and it shows!

Since this display was such a runaway success, Moomaw says that he will be creating a different display next year. We cannot wait to see how this man manages to top himself. If you’re anything like us, you are Googling the driving distance to his location as we speak.
