Trey Parker and Matt Stone, best known as the creators of South Park, announced back in July that they’d be purchasing the Casa Bonita Restaurant that’s featured in the show.

While this feels like ages ago now, they have finalized their new acquisition. For those who do not know, this restaurant holds a very special place in the lore of the show.

The Mexican-themed “eatertainment” establishment just so happens to be located in Lakewood, Colorado. The former owner is Summit Family Restaurants, an organization that was sadly forced to file for Chapter 11 protection in the state of Arizona. They experienced a severe economic downturn because of the ongoing pandemic.

Trey and Matt are Colorado natives who have long been fans of the establishment. Casa Bonita is one of their favorite places to hang out, rightfully so. While the sale is still awaiting final approval from the courts, the duo is already making plans to spruce the place up a bit.

The iconic Mexican restaurant has been open for nearly 50 years now and we are glad to see that it will remain in existence.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis is thanking Parker and Stone for making this incredible commitment to the local community. There are a lot of people of their stature that would have run away from where they grew up and never looked back. They are saving a local landmark and improving upon it in the process. What’s not to love here?

As big South Park fans, we are now placed in a tough position where we may have to consider a trip to Colorado as soon as possible. How else are we supposed to appreciate all of the hard work that these two have put in? We have to see it up close, for ourselves.
