Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

There are some discussions that will be fairly easy to have with children and others that are more difficult. For many families, covering the subjects of race and racism with children is one of the more difficult bridges to cross. Fortunately, we have Sesame Street to help us out.

Sesame Street is teaming up with CNN to host a town hall called “Coming Together: Standing Up to Racism.” You can watch this with your children on Saturday, June 6, at 10 AM EST. The primary discussion for the town hall will be racism, which is important considering the recent protests that are taking place around the country. It can help children and everyone in the family to be more empathetic toward those who may live different lives or have different experiences than our own.

Van Jones and Erica Hill from CNN will be involved in the special, as well as Big Bird. Some other familiar faces that will appear at the town hall meeting include Elmo, Abby Cadabby, and Rosita. A number of other experts will be on hand to answer questions that were submitted ahead of time by families.

Sesame Street has teamed up with CNN before for another town hall. The first one involved the coronavirus pandemic and took place in April. You can see the new town hall on CNN, CNN International, and CNN en Español. It will also be streamed live on CNN’s mobile apps and CNN.com. You can still submit questions to CNN.com and they may be selected to be discussed during the town hall.
