With COVID-19 travel restrictions lifting, more and more people are looking to travel in the near future. As such, people may start staying in hotels more often and one ex-employee is here to spill the tea on some insider secrets.
Janessa Richard (@janessarichard on TikTok) worked at an unnamed hotel for years, and she took to TikTok to share some secrets of the industry that most people might not be aware of.
For starters, some hotels don’t wash the duvets or comforters between guests. She said, “They wash it maybe once a year, which is really freaking gross. There are so many germs, and I don’t even know what else on there.” Many hotels are shying away from this practice, but it’s a good idea to ask the front desk or request a fresh comforter if you’re worried.
She also shared that if there’s space available, front desk staff can upgrade customers to a suite or larger room if they feel like it – totally free of charge! Make sure to be extra nice to the front desk staff and kindly ask if you can be put in the largest room possible. You don’t need to specifically ask for an upgrade, but if they’re feeling kind, you may just get it.
Another thing she noted is that front desk staff aren’t supposed to say your room number out loud, which is why they write it down on the keycard and show it to you that way. This is done for safety, so anyone standing nearby can’t hear which room you’re in.
Jessica went on to create three additional confession videos, and they’re quite informational.
