Everyone’s Netflix habits are different. But every so often there comes a cultural phenomenon that gets everybody watching the same thing on a streaming site.

At the start of the pandemic, it was Tiger King, and now a year later, we have Squid Game. The Korean Netflix drama really took the world by storm when it was released, making a lot of people fans of the show. I include myself in that category and actually binged the entire thing in one weekend because I couldn’t get enough of the show.

The premise revolves around a group of hugely indebted people taken to a mysterious island where they’re given a chance to win a major cash prize in exchange for playing some deadly games.

Yeah, it was a riveting, nail-biting watch that still has me tearing up whenever someone mentions episode six. And that ending…oof! It definitely had us all asking a very important question: Will there be a season two?

After much speculation, the Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk spoke to The Guardian last month saying, “Of course there is talk. That’s inevitable because it’s been such a success. I am considering it. I have a very high-level picture in my mind, but I’m not going to work on it straight away. There’s a film I really want to make. I’m thinking about which to do first. I’m going to talk to Netflix.”

But over the course of the month, things started to sound a little more definite, like when he said to the Associated Press, “So, there’s been so much pressure, so much demand, and so much love for a second season. So, I almost feel like you leave us no choice.”

Dong-hyuk added, “But, I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen.”

So, fingers crossed this means that we will be getting to see a second season of Squid Game appear sometime on our Netflix suggestions, however, the time frame of when that might be remains anyone’s guess.
