Ingredients
  • 6 tablespoons oats, rolled or steel cut
  • 1 1/2 cups plus 5 tablespoons water, divided
  • 2 2/3 cups whole milk
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Preparation
  1. In a bowl combine the oats with 5 tablespoons of water. Let the oats soak for 5 minutes.
  2. While the oats are soaking, combine the milk and remaining water in a large saucepan and bring it to a boil.
  3. Reduce the heat to a simmer and add in the soaked oats (and the remaining liquid the oats soaked in).
  4. Continue to cook and stir the oats for 15 minutes. Season with salt and vanilla and serve warm.
