Ingredients
  • 2 lbs spare ribs
  • Barbecue sauce of choice
For the rub:
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
For the Instant Pot:
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 white onion, chopped (optional)
For the Slow Cooker:
  • 1/2 cup apple cider
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 white onion, chopped (optional)
Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, stir together paprika, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, cinnamon, and brown sugar.
  2. Wash ribs, remove membrane, and pat dry with a paper towel.
  3. Coat front and back of ribs liberally with the rub.
For the Instant Pot:
  1. Add apple cider and Worcestershire sauce to Instant Pot. Arrange steam rack in insert and place ribs on top. (If you don't have a steam rack, you can use onion slices to lift ribs out of the liquid.)
  2. Close Instant Pot lid, make sure valve is in sealing position and cook on Manual for 25 minutes.
  3. Let pressure release for 10 minutes, then switch valve to Venting to release pressure.
  4. Remove ribs from pot, and place on a baking sheet lined with foil. Coat with barbecue sauce and broil (5 minutes) or grill until sauce has thickened.
For the Slow Cooker:
  1. Place apple cider, Worcestershire sauce, and onions in the slow cooker.
  2. Arrange ribs on top, cover, and cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8 hours.
  3. Remove ribs, and place on a baking sheet lined with foil. Coat with barbecue sauce and broil (5 minutes) or grill until sauce has thickened.
For the oven:
  1. Preheat oven to 275°F and line a rimmed baking sheet with foil.
  2. Place ribs on baking sheet, cover tightly with foil, and bake until meat falls easily from bones, 3-4 hours.
  3. Uncover, coat ribs with barbecue sauce, and broil (5 minutes) or grill until sauce has thickened.
