Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup soy sauce (low sodium)
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon crushed ginger
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon honey
  • 3 tablespoons corn starch
  • 4 tablespoons water
  • Kosher salt and black pepper, to taste
  • sesame seeds, to garnish
Preparation
  1. Combine the teriyaki ingredients (except for water and corn starch), and heat in a saucepan at medium temperature, whisking continuously. When the sauce begins to bubble, turn the temperature to low.
  2. Mix the water and corn starch together in a small ball to form a slurry. Add the slurry to the sauce and continue whisking, until the sauce has thickened to your desired taste.
  3. Remove from the heat and place into a glass container with a lid. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and sesame seeds, then allow to cool.
  4. Store in an airtight container. Homemade teriyaki sauce can keep for 1-2 weeks in the refrigerator.
