Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 4 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted cold butter, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Kosher salt, for garnish
Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. Using your fingertips, smash the cold butter in the flour mixture until you create pea-sized crumbles and the butter is incorporated. Then mix in the oil.
  3. Add the water to the mixture and stir to form a wet dough.
  4. Wrap the dough in plastic and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 400ΒΊF and prepare two parchment-lined sheet trays.
  6. Dust the bench with flour and cut the dough into two pieces. Work with one piece at a time, while refrigerating the other half. Roll evenly until an even thickness, then use a biscuit cutter to cut as many rounds as you can. Transfer to the prepared sheet tray and brush with egg wash, then sprinkle with salt.
  7. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes or until the crackers are golden brown. Repeat step β€œ6” for the remaining crackers.
  8. Let the crackers cool slightly on the tray, then transfer to a wire rack.
