Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cups onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 3/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup Gruyere cheese, grated
  • 1 can French fried onions
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Preparation
  1. In a skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil.
  2. Once oil is hot, add onions and cook 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Add balsamic vinegar, thyme, and season with salt and pepper. Cook until onions are golden and caramelized, reducing heat if necessary, about 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
  3. In a large bowl, stir together cream cheese Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and Gruyere cheese until well combined.
  4. Mix in cooled onions and adjust seasoning as needed.
  5. Shape cheese into a ball and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill at least one hour and up to overnight.
  6. Before serving, roll ball in French fried onions. Enjoy!
