Easy Cream Cheese Danishes

Course: breakfast
Servings: Makes 12 danishes
Author: Rachael Murray

Ingredients

  • 1 (17.3 oz) box puff pastry dough, thawed
  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Icing

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Unroll thawed puff pastry dough on a cutting board and slice into 12 evenly sized rectangles.
  3. Use a small knife to score a border around each rectangle about ½ inch from the edge, not cutting all the way through dough. Pierce the center of each rectangle with a fork a few times to prevent rising.
  4. Transfer the scored rectangles to an un-greased baking sheet, placing them at least 1 inch apart (use two baking sheets if necessary).
  5. Mix together the cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, and lemon juice in a small bowl until smooth.
  6. Spoon filling into the center of each rectangle and spread just until the border cut.
  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until puff pastry is a light golden brown.
  8. In a small bowl, mix together icing ingredients until smooth.
  9. Allow danishes to cool for 10-12 minutes then drizzle icing over the top.
