K-9 Izzy is a bloodhound who works for the Connecticut State Police. Now, this brave girl is being lauded for using her nose to help rescue a missing child.

When a 10-year-old girl disappeared in Connecticut, K-9 Izzy and her handler were called in to help.

Although only 3 years old, Izzy has already proven her skill at finding missing people. In one instance, Izzy located a drunk man who fled a car crash and then tried to escape into the woods. Another time, Izzy tracked a suicidal person for over two miles and nearly 800 feet of elevation, thus allowing this person to get home safe and find the help they needed.

In Izzy’s latest act of bravery, officers simply gave the police dog an item belonging to the missing girl.

This was enough for Izzy to recognize the missing child’s scent. Using only her nose as a guide, K-9 Izzy then led officers for nearly 2 miles into the woods, where they found the missing girl unharmed.

“After a 1.63-mile track, K9 Izzy successfully located the female youth in the area of the Whittemore Sanctuary in Woodbury,” Connecticut police cheered on Facebook. “Great work to Izzy and her handler!”

Great job, Izzy! Hopefully, this heroic dog got some extra treats for saving the day.
