If there’s an open house, you are probably going to want to be able to open the door to said house, correct?
That would seem to be a no-brainer in most instances. However, this viral video asks a very important question. Is it still technically an open house, even if you cannot actually open the door to get into it?
It’s a valid query, from where we are sitting. This clip, which has already received over two million views, shows viewers some of the darker aspects of living in the Big Apple. This is a popular genre on TikTok, as people look to learn more about the city that never sleeps.
You see, apartment units are in such short supply in New York City, people are resorting to taking places that are not even fully functional. It’s pretty funny, as long as you are not one of the poor saps that is reduced to living in one. Charlotte, who goes by @charlottesaround on the app, is the one who is sharing her misery with us.
“Reality of NYC apartment hunting and the absurd prices,” she writes in the video. The door does not fully swing wide and that’s not the only problem. 45 degrees into the door’s opening, it smacks into a stove handle that is just a few inches away. The impact is very noticeable. Charlotte can barely squeeze herself through the doorframe, even though it has been opened as far as it can go.
The rest of the kitchen is revealed, as it has been installed in an area that looks like it was supposed to be a foyer. To the left of the aforementioned oven, there is a half-size dishwasher, a sink, and barely any counter space to speak of. As for floor space? Good luck with that, Charlotte.
“Imagine paying $4000 per month to get whacked with the door any time you use the stove and someone comes home,” she continued. How people can continue to live in these types of apartments is beyond our comprehension.
