In my book, a great steakhouse has to nail every dish throughout the meal, and that includes the side salad. I want a refreshing crunch and memorable flavor! A restaurant that really gets this right is the North Woods Inn. Their salad is all about the homemade dressing and sure to have diners asking, “What’s in this!?” We set out to make that famous salad at home and, we’ve gotta say, the results are pretty darn tasty. If you’re looking for a new side salad recipe, this is the one.

The dressing couldn’t be easier to whip up. With just buttermilk, mayo, and gorgonzola, you’ve got a seriously rich and creamy base balanced out with a little garlic, onion powder, and white pepper. That combination delivers a flavor that’s punchy but not overwhelming. It’s a reminder that sometimes the simplest ingredients really do the most heavy lifting.

What I love about this salad is how quickly it comes together. No chopping of endless veggies, no complicated layering—just iceberg lettuce chopped into bite-size pieces and tossed with dressing right before serving. It’s straightforward, but it never feels boring. Simple and sophisticated, just like your favorite steakhouse. Only now, you can make it in your own kitchen any night of the week!
