When it comes to pub food, onion rings are everywhere. Some pubs even make it their specialty, spending years perfecting their batter, adding beer and special seasonings. The beauty of the onion ring is in its simplicity. They’re delicious on their own but they accompany many dishes so well!

But if you don’t have a fryer at home, it can be difficult to make them yourself unless you bake them! We prefer to bake our onion rings so that we still get the crunchy goodness of the batter without all of the grease that can come with frying. Try them out with your family on burger night, or even as an evening snack!

Mouthwatering Pub Recipe: Oven Baked Onion Rings

Oven Baked Onion Rings

(serves 5-6)


  • 1 cup flour
  • 3 red onions
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Old Bay Seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder


  1. Preheat your oven to 450° F.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spray with cooking spray.
  3. Beat eggs and milk in a small mixing bowl.
  4. Combine flour, salt, Old Bay, and garlic powder in a second bowl.
  5. Place breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
  6. Peel away outer layer of onions and chop of the top and bottom. Then chop your onions horizontally in 1/2 inch increments. Then separate the layers of onions so that they begin to look like rings.
  7. Take each onion ring and first dip it into the mixing bowl with the flour. Then dip it in the bowl containing your eggs and milk.
  8. Dip the same onion ring into the bowl of breadcrumbs.
  9. Place your battered onion ring on your baking tray.
  10. Repeat steps 7 and 8 until all of your onion rings are battered and on the baking sheet. Then spray your completed onion rings with a bit more cooking spray.
  11. Bake onion rings for 25 minutes or until they are golden brown.
  12. Enjoy!
