While 2020 has been the year that would not end, New Year’s is right around the corner. We cannot wait to put this year to bed and we are sure that you are right there with us.

Of course, everyone wants to make sure that they are getting started off on the right foot and many do just that by setting New Year’s resolutions. Offers.com decided to take a poll in order to find out more about the most popular New Year’s resolutions for 2021.

According to the results, 3% of all respondents said that they were not making a resolution, which isn’t surprising. Most people enjoy making resolutions to some extent, though there are always those people who just want to welcome the New Year as if it were any other day.

However, to the surprise of the pollers, 25% of all those who responded were setting the same resolutions! In other words, 26% of people (over 1/4th of the population) agreed on the #1 resolution.

So, what were the full results of the poll?

Well, finding love ranked 6th on the list of New Year’s Resolutions. People are interested in making romantic connections and finding that special someone.

In contrast, securing a new job was 5th on the list. A new job is similar to a new relationship – they both take a lot of time and commitment. After all of the career changes people experienced in 2020, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that this one landed on the list.

The 4th resolution on the list was making new friends. Making new friends closely followed traveling more, which came in at number 3.

The 2nd most popular New Year’s Resolution for 2021 was saving money. A lot of people experienced financial distress in 2020, so it’s no surprise that money is at the forefront of many minds.

So, what landed at the top of the list? It’s an oldie but a goodie. In fact, it may be the most notorious of all resolutions: weight loss and exercise.

Of course, everyone has been stuck inside all year and many have taken up hobby baking (and/or stress eating). It’s easy to understand why people are wanting to start the New Year by shedding a few pounds.

Anyone who is looking to shed a few pounds would do well to consider their current lifestyle. It’s easy to become sedentary and rely on snack foods when you are constantly indoors. Fortunately, we are usually able to take the pounds off whenever we are ready to put in the proper time and effort. As always, please consult your health care team before making any major changes to your diet or exercise regime.

Since 26 percent of all respondents said that weight loss is their primary goal, there may be quite a rush when it comes to the gym. Gym regulars, please be kind to those who are just getting started. After all, we were all beginners at one point in time!
