Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

Some big news has recently come from the Twitter of the former First Lady of the US, Michelle Obama. We remember Michelle for starting the Let’s Move campaign, which worked to improve the nutrition of lunches in schools, as well as promote more physical activity in kids to help fight childhood obesity.

While she may have left the White House, her concern for health among our kids has not slowed down. Starting March 16th, the former First Lady will be taking over Netflix with her brand new children’s show, Waffles + Mochi.

If the title sounds cute already, it’s about to get even more adorable as it will feature live-action puppets. Together, Michelle and her puppets will be embarking on culinary adventures together in a healthy eating promotion.

The news, alongside a photo of the new series, was shared to her Twitter account in which she wrote, “I’m excited for families and children everywhere to join us on our adventures as we discover, cook and eat delicious food from all over the world.”

Michelle’s new TV series will be a collaboration with Partnership for a Healthier America, which is a non-profit organization. She’s even the honorary chairperson of the group. Partnership for a Healthier America places great emphasis on working to make healthy foods accessible to both kids and adults throughout the country.

Michelle has also shared a little bit about the storyline for her show. Both Waffles and Mochi are set to be two buddies who come from “The Land of Frozen Food,” but they have big dreams of being chefs. Given that they’re from the land of frozen food, all their ingredients are made of ice so they have to travel “on global ingredient missions, traveling to kitchens, restaurants, farms and homes all over the world, cooking up recipes with everyday ingredients alongside renowned chefs, home cooks, kids and celebrities.” Sounds like it’ll be a hoot with the intended audience.

Netflix Family shared that the former First Lady’s show had been a work in progress for quite some time. And Michelle herself has shared that she’s very passionate about the project and can’t wait for it to debut.

In a post, she further wrote, “It’s all about good food: discovering it, cooking it, and of course, eating it. These two will take us on adventures around the world to explore new ingredients and try out new recipes. Kids will love it, but I know that adults will also get plenty of laughs — and some tips for the kitchen.”
