Although there are many different items on the menu at McDonald’s, you have likely purchased something with an egg in it. The thing is, some eggs are round and others are square. What’s the difference?

If you’ve ever wondered about the square eggs offered at McDonald’s and how they are different than the round eggs, we now have the answer. It comes in the form of a TikTok video that was posted by a McDonald’s employee.

The video has gone viral because it shows the big difference between these two different egg types. In the video, the employee crossed the line when discussing something that is often considered a secret; whether McDonald’s uses real eggs or not.

The social media user, @essentialmcdonalds, went on to explain that it really depends upon your perspective. He then goes on to give a further explanation.

The video says that the square eggs, which are folded eggs, are already cooked and come in an airtight container. The only thing that is necessary for McDonald’s to do at that point is warm them up on the grill.

The round eggs are different because they are actual eggs that are cracked from the shell and put into a round mold. As a result, they are rounder than the average eggs that you may cook in a skillet at home.

As the round eggs cook on the griddle, the yoke is cracked and water is poured on top of the grilling surface. This creates steam, which cooks the egg further.

McDonald’s has not hidden the fact that they use prepackaged eggs in some cases. The company’s website gives a very standard definition of egg types, both round, and square.

There were still many people who commented on the video that had their own feelings on the matter. Some said that they would always buy the round eggs from now on and others said they didn’t care because they preferred the square egg.
