As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to place the world under lockdown and people are asked to keep a respectful distance from one another, everyone is doing their best to get on board. Lawmakers and celebrities are coming together to speak out about the importance of adhering to the new guidelines. McDonald’s Brazil is now getting in on the act.

They have decided to separate the golden arches, as a means of teaching people a very important lesson about the necessity of social distancing. Consider this a public service announcement. The arches were not physically separated, though. The announcement came in the form of a Facebook post. Like many other fast-food restaurants, they have closed the dining room and are only offering to-go service.

McDonald’s India is expressing a similar sentiment, as they have taken to Instagram to speak to their customers directly. The arches pull apart in a special animation and the message is clear: “A little distance goes a long way!” The #socialdistancing hashtag is a very nice touch, too. The French fries have even been separated and this provides us with a much-needed chuckle.

The posts received an interesting mixture of criticism and praise. There are some who believe that they deserve to be commended for speaking out. Meanwhile, there are others who are wondering why these restaurants are continuing to serve customers in the wake of this continued outbreak.

It’s a fair question to ask, for sure. Employees should not be kept together if the arches are going to be separated. The restaurants believe that they are doing their part to protect the general public by keeping the dining room closed in the meantime. Employees who are working in the drive-thru lane and delivery services are currently subjected to intensified cleaning protocols.

As long as the McDonald’s dining rooms are closed, we suppose that the diner should be safe. While it is reasonable to wonder if we should be continuing to patronize fast-food restaurants, they are doing everything in their power to make sure that their workers and customers are protected. If you loved these McDonald’s posts as much as we did, please be sure to share them with your closest friends and loved ones as soon as possible. Let’s all do our best to remain safe during these challenging times.
