As children, we were always told not to play with our food. However, it seems that Matteo Stucchi, an Italian pastry chef, never got that memo – and we are so thankful for that because he’s “playing with food” has some incredible results. The 23-year-old, based out of Monza, Italy, creates delectable desserts, but with a unique twist: he adds tiny toys in order to transform his treats into miniature scenes.
The creative chef clearly believes in aesthetics matching taste when it comes to his creations, since he states, “In a dessert, decoration is as important as the taste.”
While there is no doubt that his desserts are delicious, it’s the scenes that Stucchi creates which are the main attraction. You can see the craft and creativity in all the scenes he comes up with – such as a compact construction crew using a toy crane to dust tiramisu with cocoa, a pocket-sized priest officiating a wedding ceremony between a pair of chocolate-covered strawberries, a little river-rafting crew navigating chocolate rapids, and a team of tiny maintenance men conducting a monster manicure.
It doesn’t matter if the sugar-coated depiction is of everyday life, or a specific formal event, Stucchi seems to have a scene for every occasion, and it’s always rounded out by quite the tantalizing action shot.
If you wish to see more of his work you can follow Stucchi on Instagram. His username is @idolcidigulliver, which is an homage to “Gulliver’s Travels,” a satirical literary work by Irish writer Jonathan Swift. It also happens to be where Stucchi draws his inspiration for his work. The creative pastry chef uploads new creations to his Instagram every Tuesday and Friday, all of which have us saying, “yummy!”
