On Halloween night in my house, we sit on the floor and make our candy trades (Reese’s and Sour Patch Kids are the hottest commodities here), eat our fill, and then the leftover Halloween candy gets cached in the far corner of the highest kitchen cabinet where it gets picked through occasionally until only stale candy corn and Circus Peanuts remain. My dear friend has a very different strategy – she wants to get all that candy out of the house in one go, so the day after Halloween, she takes it all and dumps it into Leftover Halloween Candy Brownies. They’re a complete sugar extravaganza and boy, are they delicious.

Here’s the nice thing about these – any candy combo works. Chocolate, of course, is a natural choice, but Skittles and Starbursts provide interesting texture too. You can use what you have and these are forgiving enough to handle up to three cups of candy (if you somehow haven’t consumed the majority after getting home from trick or treating, that is).

You could technically use a packaged brownie mix for these, but this particular batter makes things easier with the candy add-ins since it’s of a pourable consistency. You don’t have to worry about spreading the batter around the candy. Instead you pour a layer of batter in, top it with a layer of chopped candy, pour in another layer of batter, and top that with even more candy.

Just to make sure there’s candy running throughout the entire brownie, you know.

They’re fudgy and versatile and yummy – so good that you just might want to go ahead and pick up an extra bag of candy… you never know if you’re going to have leftovers!
