When you knock on a door, what is your style? Each of us probably has our own unique way of knocking. For me, it is five short knocks and I typically do it softly.

There are also knocks that are well known by most people, and that includes a series of five knocks, followed by a pause and then two more knocks. We sometimes hear people doing this, but did you realize that it actually has a name?

The realization of that fact came to a creator on TikTok and he uploaded a video to share with the world. He was watching Netflix with the captions on and when somebody used the knock, he found out that it had a name.

After he uploaded it, thousands of people watched it and many were just as amazed to learn that the knock was named. Now that we hear it, we can’t unhear it.

@calumdilieto said: “So, can we talk about the fact that I was today years old when I found out that this knock . . . has a name? What? I was watching Netflix with the subtitles on, which is a new thing for me. Lots of people do that. Why? Why do you do that?”

He went on to say that when somebody knocked, he saw the name come up in the subtitle. After doing some additional research, he found out that the subtitle was absolutely correct.

Are you ready for this? It’s called the “Shave and a haircut” knock. It is from the similarly well-known ditty, “Shave and a haircut, two bits.”

Although his research didn’t point to any specific reason why it was named in that way or how it originated, it does seem to match up nicely.

In fact, there are others who have used it as well, including in the movie, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

I guess you never know what you are going to learn on TikTok.
