Spray Paint

First things first. Gather up a pair of hula hoops and get to spray painting. In this example, they went with a copper look, but you can choose whatever color fits in with your decor. That’s the beauty of DIY – you’re not stuck with whatever the store has to offer. Make sure to flip the hula hoops over once they are dry and spray paint the backside as well.

Cut & Stain

Next, measure the hula hoop where you want your shelves to go. Head over to your local hardware store and have them cut two pieces for you. Then, sand and stain the wood in whatever shade you want. Make sure everything is nice and dry before moving on to the next step!

Put It All Together!

When the hula hoops and wood shelves have dried, it’s time to put it all together. Mark off and screw on the shelves starting with one hula hoop on one side, and then moving on to the other hula hoop on the other side. The finishing touch is to measure the distance between the two hula hoops once everything is assembled and cut two sections of dowel to put on the bottom. This keeps the whole shelving unit from rolling away.
