It’s true what they say – when you’re a kid, weeks feel like years, but when you get older, the years feel like weeks! Those weeks blend into months, which blend into years until one day you’re brushing your hair and find a dreaded strand of gray hair. As you are probably familiar with, gray hairs aren’t just a different color than your other hair, they are a different texture. Gray hairs are often coarse and wiry with a mind all their own. Plus, the older you get, the thinner your hair becomes. It’s no wonder so many people opt for a short, curly perm!

If you’re not quite ready for that look just yet, I’ve got some good news. There are tons of fabulous haircuts for women over 50 that will work with your hair – gray though it may be – and help you feel and look younger.

Rounded Bob with Wispy Bangs

I adore this look! It’s elegant, yet edgy. The strong lines in the cut accent her facial features and frame her face beautifully. The stylist, Stephanie Siclari, says, “This cut works well with dense hair textures as it is an undercut underneath. The fringe is a great way to open the face and showcase the eyes.”

Long Ash-Blonde Bob

If you’re looking to transition from dyed hair to your natural gray or white, going ash-blonde is a great option. This long bob is a versatile haircut that can be dressed up or down. The soft waves are classy and elegant, and can be worn up or down.

Choppy Pixie Cut

This is a shorter haircut, but it’s far from frizzy-perm territory. This choppy look is great for thick or thin hair. It’s all in the layers! You can add volume by sprucing up those shorter layers, so this really is ideal for those with thinning hair – though it’s so versatile, it works with any hair type.

Tapered Pixie

Here’s another version of a pixie cut. This one features combed forward, side-swept bangs. This is such a great look, especially if you have fun glasses you want to show off. The extra-long pieces of hair add height, whereas the tapered nape area is soft and feminine.

Medium Length with Feathered Layers

For those who want to keep their length, but need something a little different, getting feathered layers might be just what you’re looking for! It works great with thinning hair, as you get these soft, wispy layers that frame your face.
