Trends come and go, but one style of decor that seems to emerge again and again is farmhouse chic. This rustic look combines the country aesthetic with more modern touches for a cute, comfortable, timeless ambiance. Since this is such a popular trend, decor can be quite pricey if you’re not careful! Luckily, we have a few storage ideas that carry the same farmhouse chic vibe for pennies on the dollar! Just grab a few of these bins from the dollar store or thrift store, and you’ll be good to go.
Faux Woven Basket
Isn’t this an awesome idea?! I absolutely love the end result! Get a rounded basket from the dollar store and spray paint it black (or another color of your choice). Then, measure the holes around the bin and cut strips of pleather or other material of your choosing. Weave the strips of fabric in and out of the basket and secure with industrial glue or super glue. That’s it! Doesn’t this make a cute place to store hats and gloves or other miscellaneous items often discarded by the door?
Faux Metal Bin
Here’s another cute idea that only uses a few items. Find a basket in whatever size and shape you want, and spray paint it dark gray. If you really want to go the extra mile, pick up some metallic spray paint or textured spray paint to get the look you want. Then, simply attach one of these name plates (you can find them at any hobby store in bundles for just a few dollars), and insert the label!
Rustic Storage Jars
This is one DIY where the pictures don’t do it justice – and the pictures are good, too! To start, grab a jar with a metal lid. Spray paint the jar with chalkboard paint and set aside to dry. Go ahead and get started on the lid while the jar is drying. The technique used for this DIY is called dry brushing. Basically, you’ll dab a dry brush in the paint and wipe it off on a cloth until just a little is left on the brush. Then, lightly swipe the brush against the lid to transfer the color. The effect basically looks like scratched up paint, which is perfect for the farmhouse look! The colors used here are black and metallic gold.
“Metal” Organizing Bins
Here’s another super easy DIY. Pick up a few smaller storage bins and spray paint them gray or metallic. You can use the dry brushing technique here too if you want a more rustic look! Once the bins are dry, attach name plates on the front and label. This is the perfect solution for clutter on your desk or in the bathroom.
