For many of us, eggs are a major part of our diets. They’re practically a breakfast staple for most, they go into many baked goods, and sometimes, they are even part of a savory recipe.

But if you walk into any grocery store, you might notice that the egg aisle is a little bit…complicated.

Besides just having tons of eggs available for purchase, each crate has its own label with specific traits regarding egg size, color, shape, etc. While it might seem like all eggs are the same, they are not.

Zack Williams from Zack’s Explainers takes a deep dive into the variety of eggs available within US grocery stores, and there is quite a bounty as he explains.

Williams went on to explain what the different labels mean and how they pertain to the different grading sizes which are used to figure out the quality, shape, size, color, etc. of the different eggs.

As Williams explained in his video, “America is great at providing lots of options for almost anything you would want, and the same goes with eggs, but what do all of the different types and labels at the grocery store really mean? It depends on what you care about.”

It’s definitely quite the variety. But it’s beyond just the visible qualities of the eggs. In his video, Williams even touches on label differences such as organic versus cage-free or even farm fresh. What do all these names mean?
