Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

It is no secret that thousands of visitors flock to Disney’s theme parks each day. Of course, this can cause massive crowds to build up and this can cause various visitors to feel uncomfortable.

Disney has the perfect method for dealing with this issue but there are some who may not be comfortable with it. Visitors are given wristbands, which are also known as magic bands.

These bands provide access to the parks, serve as hotel room keys, and allow the visitor to make payments at various restaurants and shops. The Mouselets, a Disney super fan who is very popular on TikTok, is here to explain the concept.

These magic bands serve as a way for visitors to open doors and make payments while avoiding the bigger crowds.

Sensors are placed all over these parks so that Disney’s teams can tell how crowded areas are starting to become. When crowds start to become too large, employees work tirelessly to disperse them. Until last year, the bands were given out for free. Now, they will run you anywhere between $20 and $58.

If you take the time to check out the clip from below The Mouselets, they are happy to explain all of the ways that Disney will keep a crowd from forming.

“This is the coolest thing that Disney can do with your magic band – they can actually perform crowd control. Disney knows where you are at all times because your magic band has a tracker,” she explains.

“So, when a big crowd starts to form, Disney can be ahead of it. They actually have an entire team devoted to monitoring crowds. When a big crowd forms, they’ll address the issue as quickly as possible by adding characters, opening up additional space in restaurants, and adjusting wait times and ride queues,” The Mouselets continues.

No, the bands do not contain actual trackers, so no worries there. They only contain sensors through RFID chips. It’s not 100% accurate, but it gives Disney a good idea of where crowds are forming so they can respond.

Kudos to Disney for coming up with such a smart idea to keep massive crowds from forming. This is especially important, given our current circumstances. We look forward to seeing the additional innovations that Disney is sure to come up with during the coming year.
