It’s perhaps one of the most anticipated, most beloved beverages served at Starbucks. It’s a seasonal beverage only available in the fall, and fans eagerly await the announcement of when their favorite pumpkin spice latte will be available at their local Starbucks. But why wait?! You can make a pumpkin spice latte right in your own kitchen with this remarkably similar copycat recipe for a pumpkin spice latte. Give it a whirl!

Fall with all it’s vibrant colors almost naturally makes us think of warm spices, and that’s what we love so much about this latte – it combines all of our favorite parts of the fall season: pumpkin flavor, warm spices, and warm beverages. And just like at the coffee shop, you can make a pumpkin spice latte with your favorite kind of milk. We warm up milk with unsweetened pumpkin puree. Now for the spices, and one of our favorite ways to add sweet and spice is with brown sugar. Brown sugar brings a sweet-spicy molasses flavor that pairs beautifully with the pumpkin flavor. But to make this a “spice” latte, we need to add spice, and we love using pumpkin pie spice as a shortcut. It has everything we need: cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger already mixed together.

You can’t have a latte without coffee, and you can use either hot espresso or hot dark roast coffee and add to the warm spiced milk. Oh, the aroma! Finally, the wait is over, because now it’s ready to be served! Grab a ladle to pour the warm pumpkin spiced latte into your favorite mugs. The latte is ready to be enjoyed as is, but why not add a little whipped cream and a dash of nutmeg as a garnish. And there you have it – a copycat version of Starbucks’ beloved pumpkin spice latte! Ingredients
  • 3 cups milk (whole, soy, 2%, almond, or non-fat)
  • ¾ cup pumpkin puree, unsweetened
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 ½ cups brewed espresso or dark roast coffee
Preparation
  1. Pour milk into a large saucepan over medium heat. Add pumpkin puree, brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice, and whisk to combine.
  2. Stir frequently until ingredients are well blended and milk is warmed through.
  3. Add hot espresso or coffee and stir to combine.
  4. Ladle pumpkin spice latte into mugs. Serve as-is or top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of ground nutmeg. Enjoy!
