Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

Coca-Cola UK has been looking to maximize its sustainability and this latest move says it all. Can you believe that this company has managed to develop a cap that will remain attached to each bottle of soda?

It’s the sort of idea that we are surprised to see, if only because we are shocked that no one else came up with it first.

The new cap is designed to ensure that fewer bottle caps end up making their way into landfills. The British division of the soda giant implemented the decision last week and by 2024, all Coke, Coke Zero Sugar, Diet Coke, Fanta, Sprite, and Dr. Pepper bottles will feature the new eco-friendly caps, according to a company press release.

“This is a small change that we hope will have a big impact, ensuring that when consumers recycle our bottles, no cap gets left behind,” said Jon Woods, the General Manager at Coca-Cola Great Britain, according to the press release. Known as “World Without Waste,” the company has set a very simple goal for itself. By 2030, they want to collect or recycle a bottle or can for each one that they are selling.

They are also looking to make their cans and bottles with 50% recycled material by 2030 as well. By 2025, Coca-Cola is expecting to have packaging that is 100% recycled. This is great news for those who are looking to enjoy a soda without all of the environmental issues that are caused. In the meantime, we are hoping that other companies see what is being done here and follow up on the initiative.

The prevention of environmental damages is not something that falls on one company or entity. We all need to do our part to make sure that these problems are handled in a more proactive way.

It is always better to be proactive than reactive in these instances. The planet needs our help and while companies like Coca-Cola UK are happy to lead the way, the rest of us must follow. What do you think of the new cap design? Let us know!
