Laundry is one of those chores that become like muscle memory after a while. We’re always in need of clean clothes and fresh undies, so we’re constantly having to do loads of laundry at least once a week.

We do it so often, that we don’t even think about it. But within that washer-dryer cycle, there is something that we should probably pay more attention to, and that would be the importance of cleaning out the dryer vent in our dryers.

While most of us probably think to clean out the lint filter in between loads, we may not realize that there is more we should be doing. We should also be making sure we don’t neglect our actual dryer vents as lint can build up in that as well, and if enough time passes, it can become dangerous.

As the U.S. Fire Administration has reported, an annual 2,900 house fires are caused by clothes dryers inside of residential homes. These fires average about 5 deaths and 100 injuries, as well as $35 million in property damage and loss. But these fires are completely preventable.

The reason these fires are so prevalent is because of the failure to properly clean out the dryer vent.
