Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

It can get difficult when you are stuck in traffic. That is especially true when it is the middle of winter and the weather has traffic backed up for miles. Many people in the Northeast who travel I-95 understand that all too well.

It happened on January 3 when a 50-mile stretch of I-95 in Northern Virginia became a snarled mess. People were stuck for hours and by the time morning came around on January 4, stranded motorists were getting hungry.

One couple that was stuck in traffic that day was Casey Holihan Noe and her husband, John. They were heading for North Carolina to visit family before John was deployed to Germany but now they ended up stuck in traffic for almost 24 hours and had no water or food.

That is when Casey noticed a truck up ahead, and it was almost too good to be true. The truck was a Schmidt Baking Company truck, and they were hoping it was full of good stuff.

At first, they didn’t act on what they saw and they spent hours staring at the truck, wondering about all of the loaves of bread that must be inside of it. That is when they had the idea to call the customer service hotline for Schmidt Baking.

Although they were a bit hesitant and figured it wouldn’t go anywhere, they actually got some good news. The owner of the company had called them back within 20 minutes and told them that help was on the way.

It seems as if the owner of the company said that Schmidt Baking was based on helping people, such as the homeless and other people in need. That call came at the right time, and they were more than happy to lend some assistance.

When the driver opened the back of the truck, the couple, along with the driver, went around to pass out bread to those who were stranded nearby. More than 50 cars received bread that day.

Of course, the bread, itself, was delicious. According to the interview below, Noe even said: “Oh my gosh, it was the best thing I’ve eaten in my entire life. A potato roll, we ate an entire bag of potato rolls, which I’m not proud of. We were starving.”
