They sometimes say that knowledge is power, and armed with the knowledge that is provided by this grocery store worker, you have the power to buy good bread.

He has shared a secret that helps you to choose bread at the store that will stay fresh for the longest amount of time when you get home. This can make the difference between enjoying every last slice of bread or tossing out half the loaf because mold is growing.

The person who shared this hack has been an employee at grocery stores for some 14 years. He has some 300,000 followers on TikTok and he regularly shares information with them to help them get the most out of shopping.

When he shared his “Random Grocery Facts,” he probably had no idea it would go viral as it did. When you stop to think about what it has to offer, however, it went viral for all the right reasons.

He said: “To determine the freshness of the loaf of bread, all you have to do is check the bowtie indicator.”

That indicator is the clip that is on the bread used to seal the plastic bag. There are five different colors, each of which indicates a different date on which the bread was baked.

If the tag is blue, the bread was baked on Monday. Green is Tuesday, red is Thursday, white is Friday, and yellow is Saturday.

Apparently, most grocery stores do not bake bread on either Sunday or Wednesday, which is why they don’t have colors associated with those dates.

Another way to guarantee you are getting fresh bread is not to shop from the top of the bin. He said that the freshest bread will be on the bottom of the stack. That helps to move the stock because most people shop from the top.

After being posted, more than 2.7 million people liked the video and 12,000 commented. Most were thankful for the information that helps them to make the best choices when they are shopping for food.

He also backed it up with a second video.
