Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

We all like to think that we would do the right thing when a serious situation arises. At times, it is necessary to step outside of our comfort zone, and at other times, we may just need to react to the situation, rather than standing by and waiting for something good to happen.

It seems as if one little boy understood the situation was dire when his sister was choking. 8-year-old Jaxson Dempsey stepped up to the plate and did the right thing.

It happened on March 29 when the two were being driven by the father, and the little girl, Lelia, was eating a chicken nugget and started to choke.

Rather than panicking, Jaxson held it together and asked his father to pull the car over. He used his hand to strike his little sister on the back and the food was dislodged from her throat. Even before the father was able to make it to her, she had started breathing again.

This type of heroic action did not come about by accident. In fact, Jaxson had learned how to do so by watching a show on the Nickelodeon network called Substitute. That show had a special guest star, John Cena, who taught the children how to save a choking victim.
