Love can enter our lives at any time – more often than not when we least expect it. For two total strangers, love came knocking in 2003 when their flights got canceled at Toronto Airport because of a snowstorm.

18-years-later, they’re married and have two kids. It’s so amazing how serendipitous life can turn out at times.

Back in 2003, Jennifer Lowther was a 29-year-old on her way to Winnipeg for her best friend’s wedding. Naturally, when flights were canceled, she was quite upset. Jennifer began to cry in the airport lounge, and that is when Chris Powell noticed her.

At the time, the 34-year-old Toronto-based Chris was en-route to Vancouver for business. He had rebooked his flight, however, he had an eight-hour gap in between and was just killing time until his new flight. When he saw Jennifer crying he decided to talk to her and see what was wrong. She explained that she wasn’t going to make it to the wedding of her best friend.

As they talked, there was no denying that there was a spark there. And it seemed like a palpable connection as well, as CNN reported that another stranded passenger asked them, “How long have you guys been together?”

Chris replied in jest, “About 48 minutes.”

Jennifer later said to CNN Travel in 2021, “There was an interesting connection. We kind of looked at each other and said, ‘Where have you been?'”

Chris added, “I don’t really cotton onto that kind of idea very often, but I just kind of look at her and I’m like, ‘Man, it feels like this has been going on — in a positive way — forever.'”

Besides their connection to one another, Chris genuinely wanted to help Jennifer find a way to get to her friend’s wedding on time. He consulted with one of the booking agents, and together, they came up with a plan. But it was tight! With Chris’s help, Jennifer was able to make it to Winnipeg by 1 pm on the day of the wedding…which started at 2 pm!

Jennifer was quite grateful to Chris, and before parting ways, the two exchanged contact details and made a plan to meet up again when they were both in Toronto again. And they did just that three weeks later. Then, just three months after their first meeting, they were engaged.

In 2004 the couple got married in Winnipeg. And the rest is history. They lived happily ever after and even have two teenagers together. As Chris said of their meeting, “It was, I don’t know, cosmic alignment, call it what you will, call it kismet — but it was amazing. I’m lucky it happened to me. Thanks fate, so far so good.”
