You’ve undoubtedly heard of Whole Foods. It’s a chain of grocery stores that focuses on healthy and fresh groceries. It’s also known for being a bit pricey, but it doesn’t have to be! Keep reading to find out some shopping tips and tricks for getting the most out of your next trip to Whole Foods. You might be surprised at what you find!

Bulk Shopping

Costco isn’t the only place you can shop in bulk! Granted, it looks a bit different at whole foods. You won’t find pallets of pre-packaged foods here, but you can find bins with all kinds of grains, nuts, trail mixes, and other things. This is great for sampling something new, like quinoa. Just get a little bit, and if you don’t like it, you won’t have a whole bag go to waste. Or, if you know you like it, you can get a lot more for your money using these bins. Plus, you won’t have all that extra packaging that comes from buying these things on the shelf. One thing to avoid, however, is getting nuts. You can find them much cheaper at other stores.

Salad Bar And Hot Food Case Hacks

If you’ve ever been to Whole Foods, then you know how tempting it is to grab up a container of salad or a few sides from the hot food case. However, once you’re done piling everything inside, the final price can be staggering! Most of the hot case and salad bar items are priced at $8.99 per pound, which can add up pretty easily if you’re not careful. Here are a few tips. First, load up on lighter items like lettuce and couscous, only adding heavier ingredients sparingly. You should also put the dressing in a separate, small container offered at the salad bar, as opposed to pouring it over your salad. That way, it won’t be counted toward the final weight. Finally, opt for boneless meats instead of bone-in meats. These may seem like small things, but they can really add up in the end!

Buy The Store Brand

Like most grocery store chains, Whole Foods has their own store brand. And, as expected, it’s cheaper than the name brand counter parts. In general, you can expect the prices of regular products at Whole Foods to be about 15% more expensive than other stores. However, the Whole Foods brand, 365, is about 23% cheaper than the rest of their products. So, in general, you could save money getting the store brand.

Use Amazon Prime

Whole Foods may have started out as a small, locally owned business, but nowadays the grocery store chain is owned by Amazon. There are special deals and discounts for shoppers with an Amazon Prime account. These deals include special sale items, as well as extra discounts on other items that are already on sale.

Customize The Package

Food waste is a huge problem. In fact, roughly one third of all food is thrown away or goes bad before it is consumed. Not only is throwing out food bad for your wallet, it’s bad for the world. Cue a recording of your mom talking about hungry children in Africa. In an effort to prevent food waste, Whole Foods offers to repackage most of their meat, produce, cheeses, and other products into smaller portions. All you have to do is ask the person in that department. Brilliant, right?
