We’ve talked about our sweet tooth before, so it should come as no surprise to you that we were absolutely thrilled when we realized we could make donuts at home using a cluster of pantry staples and one unexpected ingredient…canned biscuits!

If you haven’t discovered the wonder that is canned biscuits, check ‘em out now – they’re one of the most versatile things in our kitchen! Here, we poked holes in the center of our biscuits, fried them up, rolled them in sugar and BOOM, easy donuts that taste just as good as the kind from your favorite shop. Trust us, you’ll want to make these come Saturday morning!

5-Ingredient Donuts

Yield: 8


  • 1 (8 oz.) can refrigerated canned biscuits
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • vegetable oil, as needed, for frying


  1. Open and separate your canned biscuits.

  2. Flatten biscuits with the palm of your hand, then use a small, circular cookie cutter (or the cap of a water bottle) to cut out the centers of each biscuit. Save them as they will be your donut holes.

  3. Heat 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a large pot or Dutch oven (making sure there’s at least 3 inches of space between the oil and the top of the pot) over medium-high heat.
  4. Test oil by sprinkling some water droplets in – if it sizzles, it’s hot enough – then carefully lower biscuits into the oil.
  5. Fry on each side for 20-30 seconds, or until golden brown, then remove to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.

  6. In a small bowl, whisk together sugar and cinnamon until fully combined, then place melted butter in a separate bowl.
  7. Dip each donut in butter, shake off excess, then roll each one in cinnamon sugar mixture until coated.

  8. Repeat with remaining donuts and serve hot.

  9. Enjoy!
