When it comes to meal prep, we can use all the help we can get!
When it comes to meal prep, we can use all the help we can get. While kitchen devices like the Instant Pot and slow cooker help when it comes to cooking a meal with minimal effort, we still have to do all of the cutting, slicing, and dicing of the ingredients. Luckily, we have a few tricks up our sleeves to help in that department! Check out our list of favorite food prep hacks below.
It’s no secret that we love garlic. The recipe may call for two garlic cloves, but we know that it really means three. Maybe even four. We tend to measure garlic with our hearts instead of the recipe. That being said, peeling garlic can be such a pain! We found a great way to accomplish the task, however. Take a mason jar and crush the head of garlic. Then, put the cloves into the jar and seal it shut. Shake the jar for thirty seconds or so, and then pour out the contents. You should have nice and clean garlic cloves, sans skin!
This is such a clever trick! We wish we would have thought of this sooner. When it comes to herbs, getting the dried stuff is certainly easier. However, there’s nothing quite like using fresh parsley or rosemary in a recipe. Now you can have the best of both worlds – rich flavor and easy prep. Simply insert the stem of the herb into a slot in your colander and pull it through. The leaves will stay behind in the basket of the colander and you can dump them right into the pan!
We love avocados as much as the next person, and they are certainly enjoying their time in the spotlight as a superfood. However, peeling these suckers and then getting the seed out can cause some frustrations. An easy way to remove the seed is to use a whisk! Peel the avocado and then smash a whisk over it. Tap the whisk and avocado into a bowl, and watch the avocado gather in the bowl while the seed stays securely inside of the whisk. This is an easy way to mash avocado for guacamole!
Pineapple is such a refreshing snack, but it can sometimes be a pain to prepare. Not any more! Simply cut the top off of a pineapple, following the lines and grooves of the individual cells. Once the top is removed, you’ll be able to pull off the cells of the pineapple for easy snacking. If you are unable to finish an entire pineapple in one sitting, simply wrap it up in saran wrap to keep it fresh for later.
This easy and brilliant hack gives a whole new meaning to strawberry. Get it? Simply stick a straw into the bottom of the berry and push it all the way through. The core of the berry will come out, as well as the leaves at the top. This is such a quick and easy way to prep strawberries!
Who has time to peel apart an orange? For easy snacking, cut off the top and bottom of the orange. Then make a slice starting on one side and ending in the middle of the orange. Pry apart and watch as the individual slices roll out.
