It’s a simple recipe that makes a huge difference and you can make it a day ahead of time, so it’s not taking up precious burner space! We like the classic, canned, jiggly cranberry sauce just as much as the next person, but there’s really no comparison between the two.

Side Dish Recipe: Homemade Cranberry Orange Sauce

This cranberry (orange) sauce tastes divine when paired with turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes, and all you have to do is throw the ingredients in a pot; it’s such an easy recipe, you can delegate it to someone and not worry about what it’s going to turn out like. That’s how Thanksgiving is done, folks– delegation! This sauce will give everyone something else to be grateful for, so go ahead and add it to your must-make list!

Orange Cranberry Sauce

Yields 10 servings

Ingredients

  • 12 oz. fresh cranberries
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1-2 tablespoons Grand Marnier (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest

Directions

  1. Combine orange juice, water and both sugars in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
  2. Bring to a boil and stir until sugars are completely dissolved.
  3. Reduce heat to a simmer and add cranberries and orange zest. Continue cooking until berries begin to pop. 10-15 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and, if using, stir in Grand Marnier. Place mixture in a bowl and let cool. Sauce will thicken as it sets.
  5. Enjoy!
