Have you ever had a hankering for a cake that no bakery even makes anymore? Well, this self-described dessert anthropologistis bringing back decades-old desserts that many people have not had in years! At her Los Angeles bakery, Valerie Confections, Valerie Gordon puts in a lot of research and effort to make her desserts taste like they did in the Old Days, before these vintage bakeries closed down. Gordon uses interviews with former customers of the now-defunct businesses to help her in getting the flavor and texture of these old desserts just right. She also uses vintage menus and recipes in order to recreate these local favorites.

Gordon resurrects some really interesting cakes, like the Brown Derby Grapefruit Cake and Blum’s Coffee Crunch Cake. She believes that it can brighten someone’s day to taste something from their past and we have to agree! Have a look in the video below.
