We’ve all been there – you found the perfect dessert to take to the grill out, so you get started whipping up the batter one ingredient at a time… only to find out you don’t have any more eggs! With the oven already pre-heated and the batter halfway done, there’s no time to run to the store. Luckily, there are quite a few substitutions you can use in your recipe instead. A lot of these substitutions are actually healthier than eggs, so if you’re looking to cut calories, there are some great options out there for you! Eggs

So you’re out of eggs and halfway through your recipe. Never fear! There are quite a few options for substitutions. Fruit: 1 egg = 1/4 cup of applesauce or 1/2 of a banana mashed + 1/2 teaspoon baking powder or 1/4 cup of pureed prunes. Veggies: 1 egg = 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes or 1/4 cup of canned pumpkin. Other: 1 egg = 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed + 3 tablespoons water or 1/4 cup pureed tofu or 3 tablespoons mayonnaise.
